At the Health Industries Council meeting on March 11, 2009 in Irving, CA; USA, Harvey Brenner, Ph.D. and professor of public health and behavioral sciences at the University of North Texas Health Science Center's School of Public Health, announced new findings
that indicate that mortality is directly related to the economy.
The stress of being unemployed causes both physical and psychological issues that may eventually erupt into major medical conditions that easily could have been treated earlier. (1)
If you are unemployed now is the time to really pay attention to your health. Stress can play havoc on your body whether you are harbouring stress or expressing it hourly. Here are a few tips which can really make a difference to your health during this time and in the years to come.
Eat healthier
This can make a huge difference. Keep down on the red meat and save some money at the same time. Increase the amount of fruit and veggies especially antioxidants. There are some tasty and inexpensive choices such as small red, red kidney, pinto and black beans also apple varieties such as Gala, Granny and Red Delicious.
Exercise
Now that you have some time, get some exercise. Walk to places, save some money. Or, jog. Get that heart beat up for over 30 minutes a day.
Think Prevention
If you feel something coming on, check with a health professional. Do not put it off. Once you come gainfully employed you do not want to be unhealthy. Take care of yourself now to be healthy today and stay healthy tomorrow.
